Good Franchise Attorney for a Franchisee or Franchisor?

By Lance Winslow Recently a gentleman wanted a good referral for a franchise attorney and I was contacted because I am a Co-Author of; Franchising 101; own Franchising.org and am the retired Founder of a Franchising Company. Certainly I have met a few franchise attorneys in my day? Could I recommend one? The better question would I recommend a Good Franchise Attorney? What an oxy-moron. Good Franchise Attorney? Maybe a wealthy franchise attorney, but good; Ha? Whose team are they on; their own team; making a buck. That is what good franchise attorneys do. Make a buck. That is why they are in business as attorneys in the first place. Yet every buck made by a franchise attorney must either come from the franchisor or the franchisee. That is money that a franchisor could use to promote goodwill, brand name recognition, advertising, training, R & D, or acquisitions, which helps franchisees? Or in the case of a franchisee, that money could be used for college tuition, additional units, retirement fund or home renovations. An attorney that cares about the needs of franchisees; very few although I have met a few; lets face it attorneys are the most self-serving creatures on the planet, so we should not kid ourselves. An attorney, which helps franchisors? Yes, if it guarantees them future billable hours. You see the truth of the matter is there is no such thing as a good attorney whether they be in the franchising sector or not. Personally if I were god, Id send them all to hell immediately. So, consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Wood Turning - A Sign of Lost Education

By Darrell Feltmate One of the frequent responses to wood turnings which are seen at craft shows or homes is the familiar sentence, “I did that back in high school.” This is usually followed by a musing on how close that was to twenty, thirty or more years ago. Unfortunately this is being lost from the students of today. Many of our schools in Canada and the United States have begun to cut back on what are regarded as extra programs as our baby boomer population ages and the number of students in our school systems dwindles. However, the type of students we receive into the schools has not changed. The diversity of interests held by various young people has remained legion, although we might divide them into some broad categories. Some are academically oriented and are destined for college. It is understood by many educators that these children need the challenge of advanced courses in maths and sciences as well as a solid grounding in the liberal arts. While it might be understood that music would be valuable for them, the same is seldom thought about auto mechanics, home economics or carpentry. Another group seems to be at school to major in sports and feels that the course work is a necessary but not sought after evil. Theirs in the world of movement and athletic endeavor where results are measured in the accomplishment of short term goals, the winning of a game , that lead to greater opportunities, the local or national championships. There is a great question as to whether something like industrial arts would be a reasonable educational avenue or a waste of time, particularly as many of these students are hoping for an athletic scholarship which would entail excellence on the playing field and good marks as well. The third group is seldom considered. These are the people who love to work with their hands. Some are artistic while others are people who appreciate a fine craft. Many of our schools, as has been mentioned, seem to think that these people need no education and leave them to their own resources when it comes to exposure to and education in their chosen interest. However, these are the very people who keep much of our civilization going. They will be the ones who learn to fix the plumbing, check the brakes on the car, cook our meals, wire our homes and so on. Many of this third group will be labeled trouble makers by their schools because their educational needs are largely ignored. With their hand-on style of learning thwarted by the educational system they tend to become bored and bored students are trouble making students. One solution may be the re-introduction of wood turning to the educational curriculum. For a modest investment schools can move in lathes and tools for a class. The academic crowd can experiment with design and artistic development while the athletic group can find challenge and easily viewed short term and long term goals. Those who love to work with their hands are self explanatory. While a wood lathe and a turning course is not a panacea for all our educational ills, it is a good starting point for many of our children. Of course there is the problem of budgets to consider. Wood turners are generally a group of people who love to share what they have learned about the craft. Some wood turning clubs have begun very popular after school programs with volunteers to teach wood turning to interested students. While this is not as ideal as teaching wood turning as part of the curriculum or for that matter as part of a full industrial arts program, it is a possibility for schools on limited budgets to reach the interests of some of their students. Darrell Feltmate is a juried wood turner whose web site, http://aroundthewoods.com , contains detailed information about wood turning for the novice or experienced turner as well as a collection of turnings for your viewing pleasure. Natural Pain Relief Tips for Arthritis

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Helen_Hecker] Helen Hecker I got rid of my arthritis and arthritis pain naturally by drastically changing my diet. I stopped eating the standard American diet (SAD.) Arthritis sufferers today are continually seeking relief from their arthritis pain. Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease of the joint cartilage and bone, often thought to result from “wear and tear” on a joint, although there are other causes of arthritis such as congenital defects, trauma and metabolic disorders. Unlike some other types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis is not systemic - it does not spread through the entire body. The pain in arthritis can be moderate to severe. Damaged joints cause pain and sufferers are constantly looking for ways to relieve the pain. Cartilage contains chondrocytes, water, proteoglycans and collagen; chondrocytes are the basic cartilage cells and are necessary for balance and function. The ability to make repairs to cartilage becomes limited as cartilage cells age. One possible cause of arthritis is the inflammatory response due to the over-reaction of the immune system to an injury or other assault in the body, like an infection. Although osteoarthritis generally accompanies aging, osteoarthritic cartilage is chemically different from normal aged cartilage. As chondrocytes (the cells that make up cartilage) age, they lose their ability to make repairs and produce more cartilage; this process may play an important role in the development and progression of osteoarthritis. Nutrition experts say it takes a combination of supplements, that no one supplement can relieve arthritis pain, build cartilage, etc. One natural approach is to consume foods that are known to help relieve arthritis pain or prevent arthritis. One natural treatment method involves avoiding all inflammatory foods. If you’re not already doing so, make a big effort to watch your diet. Try avoiding the eight most allergic foods, wheat being the most allergenic; they are wheat, corn, eggs, milk, peanuts, fish, shellfish and some nuts, not all. Natural treatment for arthritis is usually a better choice because it’s non-invasive to the body. Some foods and beverages to avoid that are inflammatory are: caffeine, salt, sugar, meat, dairy products, additives, soft drinks, white flour, white rice, alcoholic beverages, fast food, processed vegetable oils, refined, packaged and processed food. Gluten may be a culprit in arthritic diseases including fibromyalgia; avoid wheat, barley, rye, spelt, triticale, kamut and oats (although not a gluten grain it gets contaminated at the wheat mills). The first step in managing your arthritis is to change your diet; I think all experts would agree on this. With natural treatments there will be fewer, if any, side effects or adverse reactions. Whatever you do, keep moving; don’t sit when you can stand, don’t stand when you can walk. Exercise is good for joints affected by osteoarthritis. Keep a bedside basket of arthritic aids for arthritic hands (Thera-putty, hand grips, Taiji chime balls, etc.) to be used at bedtime or while watching television. A good exercise routine is the key to beating arthritis and arthritis pain. Use Taiji health balls, with the chimes, to strengthen the finger joints: hold two balls, move in a clockwise circle with your fingers to rotate them, then try counterclockwise and do throughout the day. To be on the safe side always seek your doctor’s advice before starting or changing your exercise program. Fight arthritis through proper exercise! If you’re going to go the conventional treatment route and take medications, ask your pharmacist for drug inserts so you can read up on the drugs and understand any side effects or adverse reactions, before taking them. At the very least, understand what the side effects and adverse reactions are for any drug you take. If you’re planning to take any of the non-prescription NSAIDS for arthritis, make sure you understand what bad effects they can have on the stomach, liver and/or kidneys and discuss this with your doctor. Changing your diet to predominately fruits, raw veggies, nuts, and seeds like I did, can turn your arthritis pain around almost overnight. More and more doctors are investigating the benefits of alternative therapies and most don’t object to patients trying them. One should not only search for relief of arthritis pain but work on preventing it. What You Need To Know Before You Buy Your Engagement Ring

By Peter Lim The announcement of your engagement to your future life partner is the precursor to the wedding itself. For a person who is deeply in love, the importance of the engagement ring takes on a great significance as the engagement ring is a forbearer of sorts for the wedding ring. The engagement ring does not and should not be relegated to an inferior ring when compared with the wedding ring. So when you are getting engaged, it is important for you to consider some tips on getting your best engagement ring. What then is the best engagement ring? Your engagement is a declaration to the whole world that you are a couple in love, and are making a public announcement that you are serious or going steady with a view to getting married shortly. Most if not all couples getting engaged would like their engagement ring to represent such a beautiful declaration of love. Many take the engagement ring as the surety of commitment, and as long as the engagement ring is on their finger, they are keeping themselves solely for each other, and can appear as an “item”. In choosing their engagement ring, they would have to decide on the material they would want their engagement ring to be structured from. Some would like to have it in gold, with diamonds, or some in white gold or silver, but by and large, this would be decided based on the question of affordability. An engagement ring can be of any precious metal with infilled gemstones, including jade or diamonds, but more important than that is the design of the ring. Connotations of love, symbols of enduring love can be designed on the ring. If the engagement ring is a pre-made or jeweller’s designed engagement ring, then it is important to buy that engagement ring from reputable jewellers to avoid being overcharged by unscrupulous dealers who treat this as a once-off purchase, and so take the opportunity to jack up the price. When you purchase your engagement ring from a reputable and honest jeweller, you can be sure of a realistic price as he will want to be your choice dealer when it comes to your actual wedding, and hopefully can be your family jeweller, and to supply all your jewellery needs in the future. So when it comes to the engagement ring, first settle on the design, then settle on the expenditure, then make sure you purchase your engagement ring from the most reputable jeweler in town.
